Churches continue to get involved in Texas Hope 2010, an effort to share the gospel with ever Texan by Easter 2010.
Yesterday, I visited with Richard Covington, minister of community and college ministries at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson. The Heights is trying to get 1,000 of its members involved in consistent community service. As we talked, he shared that the church has been great about doing project-oriented community efforts, but the congregation wants to shift toward consistent service where relationships can be built between church members and those they are ministering to.
He’s hoping more Heights members will get involved in mentoring children, building relationships with international college students, regularly working in soup kitchens and ministering to refugees. Through those relationships, he hopes they can share the hope of Christ and lives will be transformed.
That’s a goal we can all pray for.
