Big Bend Baptist Church in Terlingua has six members, and about 10 people attend on Sunday morning. But one Saturday each month, they provide boxes of food to 70-80 families in the community.
The church, which is on the western edge of Big Bend National Park, buys the food from the West Texas Food Bank with money they collect from members and others. It is an amazing ministry to a community of about 200 people, with many others in the surrounding hills.
“We can give people food, but we really want to give them the Lord,” said Dane Augustine, a member of Big Bend Baptist Church. “The greatest need around here is a spiritual need,” but the people are resistant. By giving the food, Augustine said, the church has “become the focal point of life” in the area.
