HBU is closing this afternoon. Here’s the report from the school’s site:
Hurricane Ike Update:
Thursday, Sept. 11
11:30 am UPDATE: The HBU campus will close today, Thursday, at 3:30 pm. All late afternoon and evening classes are cancelled. Faculty and staff should leave campus by 3:30 pm. ITS will begin shutting down servers at 5 pm. Student Life staff will be meeting with all residential students remaining on campus for the weekend to go over procedures.
All campus employees and residential students are asked to turn off all technology including computers & printers, any alternative power back up systems, and unplug all electronics before leaving today.
In accordance with Mayor Bill White’s recommendations on business closings, HBU will be closed Friday through Sunday. Classes are cancelled. Residential students NOT leaving campus for the weekend MUST check in with their RAs today. Student Life staff will be meeting later this morning to review procedures with those residential students staying on campus.
All campus events planned for this time period are also cancelled, including this evening’s Holocaust Museum Lecture by Madeleine Albright.
It is important to note that access to University email and the portal will not be available once technology servers are brought down this evening. The University website should not be affected. Faculty, staff and students should check there for updates.
Tentative plans are for campus to reopen on Monday morning. The Decision Team will stay in touch through the weekend to assess the situation and confirm the reopening schedule.
