SBC doctrine study

A Baptist Press story yesterday announced publication of Baptist Doctrine Study 2008: The Baptist Faith & Message. It was written by Richard Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission; Chuck Kelley, president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; and R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. It is a six-session study examining the doctrines reflected in the 21 articles of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

The Southern Baptist Convention established the new BF&M in 2000, but the Baptist General Convention of Texas still uses the 1963 statement. This doctrine study may raise questions about the difference between the two statements so I’m writing to remind you that a comparison is available on the BGCT web site.

No one jumped on this one! I am going to have to get a copy to make a comment.

According some of the other blogs, you better contact the authors personally prior to making a comment. Just joking!!! Kind of.

I guess the question I ask myself is, “so what?” What is there to jump on? Another study showing us where “we” are different from “them.” Couple that with the ingrained SBC tendency to ostracize anyone that isn’t totally in-line with the leadership’s way of thinking…it is just another means of narrowing the parameters of cooperation.

Sorry, the last thing I want to do is waste a minute of my life reading it.
