DALLAS – A seven-person Texas Baptist Men team is headed to the Republic of Georgia to feed people affected by the fighting there.

The team will help set up a kitchen and feed people in Gori, Georgia. Russian troops have pulled back to a position six miles outside Gori and continue to control access to Georgia’s key port at Poti, according to the AFP news service. Russians also are manning positions in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, two provinces that have sought independence from Georgia. The Russians also have left “peacekeepers” in a buffer zone they created inside Georgia.

To support this effort, send checks designated “disaster relief” to Texas Baptist Men at 5351 Catron, Dallas 75227.

Every day after the hygiene lesson, there was a spiritual lesson as well. This day we gave out salvation bracelets and the children were so excited to receive them and learn about them! Praise God!

lift up your{eyes}

Josh and I would ride our bikes to the church to meet our group in the morning. Monday to Wednesday, the pasture on either side of the road were full of green, beautiful. But on Thursday the fields ripened to gold! The green pastures were massive wheat fields! This picture was taken on Saturday morning when Josh and I came to town early to meet a friend in the market. I was reminded of where in John 4:35 Jesus says,

“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.”

KHOU out of Houston and KVUE out of Austin are reporting that the Texas lottery’s new game includes a link to a site with pornographic images. Like the Christian Life Commission needed another reason to speak against the lottery commission.

Back Pack Day!

The BGCT staff donated over $2000 to complement budgeted money from our Missions Office to supply backpacks for 775 children in need at a school a few blocks down the road from our Dallas office and today we got to put them together.

The staff will also be able to be involved in activities on Thursday and Friday with this school such as cutting hair and working a back to school festival where they will hand out the backpacks.

We pray that our small acts can be the Hope of Christ for this local school.

Texas Baptist Men will stream their Cedars conference here this weekend. This year’s speakers will be Henry Blackaby, Richard Owen Roberts, and Greg Frizzell.

The conference will be held Friday noon, August 22 through Sunday noon, August 24.
